Know your skin type

08/05/2021

Dry, combination, oily, normal, sensitive... nature has endowed us with a very specific skin type. Its role as a protective barrier against the outside world makes it an organ that needs special care. From one person to another, the needs are very different. Skin that feels tight, prone to redness, dehydrated skin, dilated and visible pores... there are many signs of poorly treated skin! To pamper it properly and provide it with everything it needs to glow, it is essential to start by defining your skin type.

Make your skin diagnosis with Akane, without further delay.

DRY SKIN CHARACTERISTICS

dry-skinned woman

Skin is considered dry when it feels tight and lacks radiance. Its texture is fine, but it is uncomfortable, lacks suppleness, and is easily subject to the first signs of aging, such as fine lines. A "snakeskin" effect can also be observed, especially after a shower or a hot bath. The hydrolipidic film covering the entire epidermis is composed of an aqueous and a lipid phase, i.e. sweat, sebum and lipids. Its main role is to maintain the acidity and ensure the hydration of the skin. In short, dry skin is thirsty because it is unable to maintain its moisture content.

Unlike simply dehydrated skin, dry skin is the result of a genetic disorder. In order to take care of this fragile skin type, it is therefore essential to provide it with care rich in water... and fat, in order to repair and soften it.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT

Once you know your skin type, identified as dry skin, the ideal skin care routine is as follows:

- Start by cleansing your face every morning with a gentle cleanser, massaging gently in a circular motion with your fingertips.

- Rinse with clear water, then apply floral or thermal water to rid the skin of any trace of chlorine or limescale present in the tap water.

- Then apply a moisturizing serum and then an organic moisturizing cream or nourishing vegetable oil, such as jojoba, avocado, sweet almond or borage oil (3 to 4 drops are enough). Nourishing and not very comedogenic, they will soften and nourish your epidermis without creating imperfections.

- In the evening, use an organic make-up remover oil and apply a rich, lipid-replenishing night cream.

- Once or twice a week, perform a gentle, enzymatic or very fine-grained exfoliation and apply a moisturizing and/or nourishing mask. You can also apply a white clay mask, perfect for gently purifying the skin and revitalizing the epidermis.

Finally, don't forget that supple and moisturized skin is undeniably linked to sufficient water consumption: 1.5 litres per day!

Myriam - "I was convinced that I had dry skin because I have tightness on my cheeks, but then I was using too rich skincare products and I had a shiny nose and imperfections on my chin. I adopted the Akane melting cream and I am very satisfied. It's neither too rich nor not rich enough. I also like the matte effect."

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMBINATION SKIN

fair-skinned woman

Combination skin is characterized by an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), and rather dry cheeks and temples. It is the most common skin type in young adults. Between localized excess sebum, dilated pores, blackheads, small pimples combined with a lack of hydration and areas that tighten, it's not easy to take care of this skin that is all about its head. All the difficulty will be to rebalance this capricious epidermis, by treating each zone in a specific way.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT

Do you recognize yourself in this type of skin? Let's start a skin care routine that's just right for you:

- Every morning, wash your face with a mild cleansing gel, insisting on the T-zone. You can use a Konjac sponge, ideal for deep cleansing the skin without damaging it. Rinse thoroughly with clear water and carry out a final rinse with fresh water to awaken the radiance of the complexion and tighten the pores.

- Then use a floral water with antioxidant, antiseptic and stimulating properties, such as witch hazel, fragrant verbena, orange tree, lavender or noble laurel floral water. These waters will remove any undesirable residue left by running water while treating the needs of your skin. To awaken the radiance of your complexion, opt for a rose hydrosol!

- Apply a moisturizing and matifying treatment to regulate excess sebum on the forehead, nose and chin, while moisturizing your entire face.

- In the evening, remember to remove your make-up with a specific oil (make-up remover or vegetable, non-comedogenic), rinse with clear water and choose a rebalancing night cream. If the skin on your cheeks feels tight, apply a dab of richer cream to these areas in particular.

Once or twice a week, perform an enzymatic or fine-grain scrub and apply a purifying and moisturizing mask. You are the ideal candidate for multimasking, a technique from Japan that consists of applying several masks to different parts of the face according to the skin's needs: green clay mask on the T-zone to absorb excess sebum, and pink clay mask on the cheeks and temples to regenerate and soothe!

CHARACTERISTICS OF OILY SKIN

Irregular complexion, shine, dilated and visible pores, unsightly blackheads... Welcome to oily skin! This type of skin is also a sign of an imbalance. While genetics is largely responsible for this excess sebum, many events can accentuate this phenomenon, such as stress, pollution, high temperatures, the period of puberty or an excessively rich diet... As a result, the skin glows with a thousand lights and is easily subject to multiple imperfections.

Contrary to popular belief, oily skin should not be attacked by strippers. Because to defend itself, it will then produce even more sebum! It also needs to be moisturised every day. Yes, it does! The sebum, here produced in excess by the sebaceous glands, is found just under the skin, which needs water to be supple and comfortable.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT

You fit that description? Then you know your skin type and are ready to follow the special oily skin care routine!

- Morning and evening, cleanse your face with a Konjac charcoal sponge and a mild cleansing product, without soap or alcohol. Perform circular massages without rubbing, and insist on the T-zone, accentuating the gesture slightly.

- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and make a final rinse with fresh water to tighten the pores of the skin.

- Then spray a floral water for oily, anti-inflammatory, toning, purifying, healing and cleansing skin. Your best allies? Tea tree, peppermint, thyme or rockrose floral water!

- Then, apply a special fluid emulsion for oily skin, which is mattifying, moisturizing and rebalancing at the same time. The organic aloe vera gel is particularly recommended: moisturizing and light, it helps fight against acne while healing damaged skin.

In the evening, remove make-up from your face with a non-comodogenic vegetable oil. Contrary to popular belief, make-up removal with oil is recommended for oily skin. In fact, using cleansers that are too harsh stimulates sebum production in the medium and long term, unlike oil make-up removal, which allows it to regulate itself! In contact with water, the oil dissolves completely and leaves no oily finish on the face. After removing make-up, use a neutral soap to cleanse your skin, then apply a water-based repair treatment that is light and moisturizing at the same time.

- Twice a week, perform a gentle exfoliation and apply a green clay mask known for its purifying and matifying virtues.

The needs of one and the same skin can change over the years. Age, hormonal imbalances, medical treatments can change its nature completely. Be attentive to your body, so that you can always provide it with an adapted beauty ritual!
