WHAT IS SPIRULINA?

spirulina powder

Spirulina is a micro-algae that appeared on Earth 3.5 billion years ago. This cyanobacterium with the capacity of photosynthesis, recognizable by its spiral shape, is notably at the origin of all terrestrial plants. It is indeed capable of transforming the atmosphere into a viable environment for all organisms that need oxygen to live.

Consumed throughout the world for thousands of years for its therapeutic properties, it was in the early 1960s, in Chad, that a team of scientists revealed all its properties. Intrigued by the excellent health of the Kanembous, living near Lake Chad, the researchers conducted a study to understand this phenomenon. Indeed, the members of this tribe showed no signs of deficiency or malnutrition, while all the countries of the Sahel were starving. It appeared that for centuries, women had been harvesting the famous spirulina, forming a thick carpet on the shores of the lake. Dried in the sun, then eaten in the form of galettes (the dihees) in times of famine, it has since also been eaten daily in a local sauce.

The tests conducted then speak for themselves: trace elements, amino acids, minerals, vitamins (A, B, D, E, K), antioxidants, proteins, essential fatty acids, nucleic acids ... spirulina is a kind of super food! But it is also very effective for the skin ... and is thus used in the composition of many cosmetics.

SPIRULINA ON MY PLATE

Cultivated throughout the world, spirulina can be found on the market in the form of dehydrated powder, flakes, capsules, tablets ... As far as you know: there is no point in over-consuming spirulina, for the good and simple reason that our body can not store more vitamins and trace elements than those provided by a daily dose of 5 grams. In order for spirulina to keep all its nutritional virtues, it must be used pure (in the form of food supplements), diluted in a glass of water, a fruit juice, or sprinkled on cold food.

Thanks to its content of gamma-linoleic acids, zinc, selenium, carotene, phycocyanin and tocopherols, spirulina is a great ally for your skin. It will indeed bring suppleness, softness and elasticity to the epidermis, while helping it to fight against premature skin ageing. So, do not hesitate to consume it every day in reasonable quantities!

Finally, always choose organic: you are thus assured of consuming a natural and healthy product, free of pesticides and GMOs.

You will have understood it, spirulina is a health and beauty asset, the quality of our skin being the reflection of a healthy life and a balanced diet. But did you know that spirulina can also be applied directly to the skin? A POWERFUL ANTI-AGEING AGENT

If spirulina is recommended for the skin, it is because of the many antioxidants it contains. As soon as we breathe, our cells undergo what is called oxidative stress: the oxygen we absorb leads to the creation of free radicals, responsible for the ageing of our body. This leads to premature cell degeneration and the first signs of aging appear, such as wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin. Although our cells naturally produce antioxidants, an external contribution is always welcome to combat this phenomenon.

Spirulina as a mask for the skin is a real anti-aging care. In particular, it contains one of the most powerful antioxidants known to date, phycocyanin, the pigment responsible for its blue-green colour. More effective than vitamins A, C, D or E, it considerably reduces the action of free radicals and contributes to cell protection.

But spirulina also contains these vitamins which, when added to selenium, manganese, copper, zinc and polyunsaturated fatty acids, make it a concentrate of nutrients required to prevent oxidative stress. The skin thus retains all its youthfulness!

A COLLAGEN BOOSTER

Collagen is a kind of "natural glue" present in the skin, tendons, muscles, bones... This protein composed of amino acids has a double function: on the one hand it preserves the joints and prevents osteoarthritis, by fixing calcium on the bones, on the other hand it allows the epidermal tissues to regenerate and preserve the elasticity of the skin. But over time, its production decreases and gives way to the signs of aging: wrinkles, fine lines, stretch marks, skin dryness and slackening appear. Maintaining a constant level of collagen is therefore essential to preserve the beauty and health of your skin.

Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B12, vitamins C and E, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, phosphorus, manganese, selenium... Spirulina contains all the amino acids, trace elements, vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that allow the skin to maintain its elasticity and plumpness. By consuming this super-algae, we provide our body with all the necessary elements to stimulate the production of collagen!

A GOOD-LOOKING ALLY!

Spirulina gives the skin a radiant look. Thanks to the large amount of beta-carotene it contains, it promotes the production of melanin, responsible for skin colouring. Did you know that this small algae contains 30 times more beta-carotene than carrots? The result is a tanned and luminous complexion all year round!
