How do you exfoliate your skin properly?

How do you exfoliate your skin properly?

24/03/2020

The skin is an organ in its own right that is constantly renewing itself. Our epidermis naturally gets rid of the dead cells that suffocate it. These are then immediately replaced by new healthy cells. This cellular regeneration takes place without us even thinking about it: by simply washing our hands, taking a shower, or just rubbing our skin, we help to eliminate these surface cells in favour of the underlying, brand new cells.

The story could end there, but that would be too simple... These famous dead cells, although they have become dander invisible to the naked eye, remain stuck to the surface of the epidermis. This is why exfoliating the skin regularly with a scrub is necessary!

Facial exfoliation

Beautiful skin is plump, luminous, and has a smooth, even appearance. But the dead cells that accumulate on the surface of the epidermis only suffocate it, dull it, and end up giving the face an unenviable grayish complexion, you will agree! Add to that a polluted environment, stress, fatigue and particular climatic conditions (wind, cold, temperature variations...) and goodbye to the much hoped-for radiant look! Exfoliating the skin of the face will effectively eliminate unwanted scales and accumulated impurities, unclog pores, dislodge stubborn blackheads and regulate excess sebum, to reveal an even, radiant complexion, and give way to a soft, velvety skin.

For a successful exfoliation of the facial skin, there is no need to strip the skin! Aggressed, the skin risks to be damaged and not to ensure any more its role of protective barrier. It is therefore important to choose the right scrub according to your skin type and not to overdo it. Twice a week maximum for mixed to oily skin, once a week for dry or mature skin, once a fortnight for skin with an atopic or sensitive tendency. The goal: to help the skin breathe and stimulate cell regeneration gently!

Body exfoliation

As for the face, body exfoliation allows you to eliminate the dead cells that suffocate your epidermis. The dead cells that clogged your skin and blocked your pores are eliminated and your skin immediately becomes softer, brighter and better able to take advantage of the active ingredients contained in the care products that are applied to it. With exfoliation, there is no need to wait months to reap its benefits, the skin is transformed in just a few minutes.

  • What type of body scrub to choose?

There are several techniques and products to exfoliate your body, it is up to you to choose which one best suits your desires and your skin.

On the same principle as for the face, you can opt for the so-called "mechanical" scrub that exfoliates with grains or the "chemical" scrub with active ingredients that rid your skin of dead cells.

Another option is the traditional black soap scrub. This scrub is made of crushed olives and potassium. It comes in the form of a brownish, sticky paste that adheres to the skin and is rubbed on with a soft horsehair glove.

  • How to properly apply a grain scrub?

In order to offer your body a deep scrub some gestures are to master! The first thing to know is that you should not go too hard, it is a moment of well-being and your skin needs softness.

The trick is to apply your scrub to every part of your body with circular movements, avoiding mucous membranes and sensitive areas (scars, eczema, redness, etc.). Rinse with warm water and soap, preferably moisturizing. After your scrub, soothe your skin with a nourishing care.

Akane Nourishing Cream Tatin with its unctuous texture that penetrates quickly leaves your skin supple, satiny and delicately scented.

  • The Akane Crumble Body Scrub, a pure moment of greed!

The Crumble Scrub is an exfoliant with grains certified Bio and vegan. A soft composition which soothes and respects your skin for an extreme comfort. A satin veil is deposited on your body for a new skin effect.

It contains brown sugar that refines the skin texture by gently eliminating dead cells but also raspberry powder that tones the skin. Pink clay and sunflower oil soften, soothe and restore the skin's radiance.

Tip! Apply it under the shower, before turning on the faucet on dry skin for a more intense scrub or on wet skin for a more gentle scrub.

Lip exfoliation

We often tend to overlook it and yet... lips also need to be exfoliated! For a clean, fresh and harmonious face, lips need to be smooth and supple. A dry and cracked mouth is no good for a healthy glow! Much thinner than the skin of the face and body, the skin of the lips does not produce sebum. As a result, we are quickly confronted with chapping, unsightly dead skin and an unpleasant feeling of tightness, especially when temperatures are falling.

To care for your lips like the rest of your face, you need to use or concoct an exfoliant adapted to their fragility and, above all, to nourish them every day. For a homemade scrub, simply mix a pinch of sugar (white or brown) with a teaspoon of honey (liquid or thick) or vegetable oil of coconut, sweet almond or olive. Take the equivalent of a pea and gently massage the skin of your lips once or twice a week. Then apply a moisturizing and nourishing balm to keep them supple!
