Cosmetics designed in Paris, apples harvested in Corrèze, formulas and packaging made in the Hérault: Akane is quite simply the story of a brand of organic cosmetics produced in France, which works with local producers to offer you the best skin care products, formulated from natural ingredients. We have been working for 10 years now with a small circle of partners with whom we share common values around the respect of nature and living things. In order to show you behind the scenes of Akane, we take you on our tour of France to follow the production of our skin care products, from the apple to the pot to the skin. Let's go for the adventure!
PRODUCTION AND HARVESTING OF AKANE APPLES
It is in Reygades in Corrèze, in the orchards of our faithful apple producer Akane, that the adventure begins. Our production of Akane apples is carried out in an ultra-reasoned agriculture and requires very little human intervention. The high concentration of antioxidants in the apple allows the fruit tree to resist a large number of diseases. The apples and leaves are harvested between August and October. As soon as they are picked, they go directly to our laboratory located in the Hérault region of France to produce our oleoactif. This proximity between the orchard and our laboratory allows the apples and leaves to keep all their powerful assets and also ensures a reduced carbon footprint. No airplane, no boat, just 3 French departments to cross to get to the right destination!
The apple is a universal fruit known for its many health and skin benefits. So why did you specifically choose the Akane variety? The Akane apple variety has the highest antioxidant content and more particularly polyphenols. The latter have tenfold antioxidant virtues. Thanks to this incredible concentration, the Akane apple is of considerable cosmetic interest. Antioxidants are a powerful anti-ageing agent and form a real protection for your skin against free radicals. It was during a trip to Japan that we discovered it and chose to put it at the heart of our brand and our products in the form of an oleoactive. Although this variety is native to Japan, it grows in all latitudes and is enjoyed in our French orchards.
THE PRODUCTION OF THE AKANE® OIL PRODUCT
In our laboratory, Akane apples and apple leaves were carefully observed in order to create an active ingredient balanced with the contributions of each. It is after 2 years of research that we have obtained the ideal blend. In addition to the high antioxidant content present in apples, especially in the skin with quercetin, Akane apple leaves also have a considerably powerful antioxidant called "sieboldine". In our studies, we compared the Akane apple with other varieties of apples and other fruits such as peaches, grapes or pears. The Akane apple was, in fact, found to be the best performer in obtaining higher and cosmetically relevant antioxidant concentrations. This is how it was designated to be our super ingredient and the basis of all our cosmetic recipes.
For the realization of our oleoactif, the idea was to extract all the active ingredients from the fruit present in the flesh, skin and leaves of apple trees and to associate them with a vegetable oil, that of rose hip. Muscat rose oil was chosen for its richness in omega 3 and 6, as well as for its nourishing and regenerating properties. The one we use in our oil is also bio-certified. Thanks to this combination of ingredients, we have created our oleoactif, a powerful antioxidant 7 times more effective than pure vitamin E.
Present in all of our skin care products, the oleoactive ingredient has a strong regenerating power, it protects the skin from free radicals and slows down its ageing process. In addition to taking care of your skin, this apple-based active ingredient delicately perfumes our treatments with a gourmet scent.
PRODUCT CREATION
Once our oleoactif is ready, we leave for Saint-Sériès, still in the Hérault region, to find our partner laboratory which deals with the formulation of Akane skincare products, their production and packaging. To create Akane skin care products, the challenge is to find the perfect recipe that combines our natural ingredients with our oil-active ingredient to meet a given need (reducing dark circles, reducing the appearance of skin pores, nourishing dry skin). It is upstream, in our offices in Paris, that we imagine the new skincare products and their composition. We then submit the idea to our laboratory, which takes care of creating the formulas and launching the first tests in order to obtain the magic recipe that will satisfy your skin. All ingredients from petrochemicals such as paraben, mineral oils, carcinogenic substances and silicone are excluded from our formulas. Our products are certified organic and contain a minimum of 95% natural ingredients. Textures, fragrances, everything is meticulously studied to offer you quality care and the best sensory experience.
Once the formula is finalized, we move on to the production of the cosmetics and their packaging, again in our partner laboratory. For the packaging of our products, we use 100% recyclable materials. Our tubes also contain 60% recycled material. Finally, our care products are sent to our various partner outlets, or stored in our warehouse for orders on our e-commerce site.
But the adventure doesn't stop there... It's then in our offices in Paris that the Akane story continues, surrounded by our wonderful team, to prepare for you many nice surprises to come!
ANY FUTURE PLANS?
After the success of organic cosmetics, a new challenge is coming, that of the container. Today, reducing plastic consumption is becoming a real challenge and we are all actors of this change. It is in this approach of respect for life that at Akane, we will soon replace all of our plastic jars by a new 100% biodegradable packaging, made from organic materials. These pots are currently the most promising and environmentally friendly alternative to other packaging such as glass, aluminium or plastic. It is with this huge challenge that we wish to participate in tomorrow's world and to bring with us other major players in the cosmetics industry to democratize these packaging respectful of nature and life.
