Discover all the virtues of this oil that has been used for centuries...

WHAT IS SWEET ALMOND OIL?

Sweet almond oil comes from the almond tree, a fruit tree that thrives in sunny regions, such as the Mediterranean countries and the south of France. The prunus dulcis, which means "sweet almond tree", starts to flower at the end of winter. The fruit obtained is green in colour and contains a seed, which is the almond. The harvest is finally done between September and October, once the fruit is dry. The almonds are then cold-pressed to obtain this oil, which is pale yellow in colour and has a subtle smell of almond and hazelnut. Thanks to its many benefits for the skin, sweet almond oil is widely used in cosmetics, mainly for making face cream, body lotion and baby care products. You can find it under the name of PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS OIL in the list of ingredients. Its strong appeal in cosmetics is mainly due to its richness in vitamins A and E and fatty acids, such as omega 6 or 9.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. It protects the skin from free radicals, preserves it from skin ageing and contributes to cell regeneration. It helps to strengthen the hydrolipidic film and maintains hydration.

Vitamin A: this second vitamin present in sweet almond oil improves the elasticity of the skin. It restores suppleness and reduces tightness. It stimulates the production of collagen and gives a healthy glow.

Omega 6 and 9: omegas moisturize, nourish and restore the skin's hydrolipidic film. They make it supple and soft, and also make it more radiant.

Among all the existing vegetable oils, sweet almond oil is one of the most affordable on the market, with a very good quality-price ratio. Even if it is suitable for all skin types and the whole family, it is particularly recommended for dry, irritated and sensitive skin, for its soothing and moisturizing properties. It is also very effective in preventing stretch marks, cracks, scars and chapping. Sweet almond oil is very pleasant to apply, it leaves a light scent on the skin and a velvety touch.

Caution, its use is not recommended for people allergic to nuts.

HOW TO USE SWEET ALMOND OIL?

To take care of dry skin

Sweet almond oil is the ally of dry, fragile and irritated skin. It soothes, deeply moisturizes, strengthens the hydrolipidic film, protects against external aggressions and restores elasticity to the skin. Its anti-inflammatory and calming virtues also allow it to soothe the skin in case of eczema on the face.

After your beauty routine, warm a few drops of sweet almond oil between your hands and apply it to your face. For very dry skin, it is possible to apply it in a slightly thicker layer and leave it on overnight.

To moisturize the body

Sweet almond oil is finally used to moisturize the face as well as the body. You can add a few drops to your body lotion or massage yourself directly with the oil. If you suffer from irritations, eczema patches on the body or sunburn, apply a little oil to the affected area to reduce the feeling of discomfort.

To make a homemade scrub

Almond oil can be used to make a homemade body scrub. Its softening and moisturizing properties make it an ideal exfoliating base. The recipe is very simple: mix a little oil with sugar, about 4 tablespoons of each. It is preferable to choose cane sugar because the grains are a little larger and will be more effective on the skin. You can also replace the sugar with coffee grounds. This scrub leaves your skin soft, moisturized and free of dead skin!

To prevent stretch marks

During adolescence, pregnancy or following a weight gain, the skin undergoes some changes and tries to continuously adapt to these new forms. It stretches, relaxes, sometimes loses its elasticity and can end up forming red, purple or whitish cracks. If stretch marks are a worry, sweet almond oil is the perfect potion to prevent them. Apply it by massaging in a circular motion on the affected areas (stomach, thighs, chest).

To reduce scars

Thanks to its high concentration of vitamin E, sweet almond oil accelerates cell regeneration. Its use is ideal for reducing scars and repairing the skin little by little. Apply a little oil on the scar and massage deeply to stimulate the cells and make the material penetrate.

To soothe babies' skin

Known for its softness, sweet almond oil is often recommended for the most fragile skins such as those of babies. In case of temporary redness, it helps to calm irritations, nourish and soften the skin of infants. You can massage your baby with this oil with gentle gestures. However, ask your doctor's advice to make sure you are not allergic to nuts.

To relieve scalp irritations and nourish the lengths of hair

Thanks to its soothing and nourishing virtues, sweet almond oil takes care of irritated, itchy scalps and helps to eliminate dandruff. Sweet almond oil also prevents hair dehydration, it restores vitality, health and shine to your lengths. It is recommended for dry hair, brittle split ends. Its composition rich in vitamins and fatty acids makes it a complete moisturizing and fortifying hair care! For irritated scalp, take a little oil between your hands and gently massage your scalp with your fingertips before shampooing. For damaged hair, apply the oil to your lengths. Leave on for 2 hours or overnight and then wash.

To strengthen brittle nails

Good for the face, the body, the hair... and even the nails! Sweet almond oil is perfect for strengthening brittle nails and nourishing the contour, especially if you suffer from small cracks. Plunge your nails into a bath of sweet almond oil for 5 to 10 minutes or soak a cotton pad in the oil, run it over your nails, and massage it in.

HOW TO CHOOSE SWEET ALMOND OIL AND HOW TO STORE IT?

In order to take full advantage of all the virtues of the oil, it is best to choose it organic, 100% natural and cold-pressed. Like most vegetable oils, sweet almond oil should be stored in a dry place, protected from light and sunlight. Sweet almond oil keeps for a long time, but if it smells rancid, use it for other purposes instead of throwing it away. For example, to grease a squeaky door or to nourish damaged shoe leather!
